An AI agent is software that plans the steps needed to reach a goal it is given and carries them out using tools such as writing code, searching, editing files or connecting to other software. Unlike a chatbot, it does not just answer; it performs tasks in sequence.

In short: Agents speed up repetitive, well-defined work, but they make mistakes. Good results come from an expert who directs the agent and checks its output. Responsibility always lies with a person.
How an AI agent works: goal, plan, tools, review, delivery
The agent plans and executes; the person sets the goal, reviews and delivers.

Where are agents used?

  • Software: draft code, writing tests, debugging suggestions, documentation.
  • Content: text drafts, summaries, draft translations, subtitles.
  • Design: generating variations, editing suggestions.
  • Automation: workflows connecting e-mail, forms and spreadsheets.
  • Data: cleaning spreadsheets, reporting, classification.

What can't agents do?

  • They can't know your business, your customers and your priorities on their own.
  • They can produce wrong results that look convincing.
  • They are not reliable on their own for legal, security-related and critical decisions.

That is why agent output needs to be reviewed, tested and fixed by someone experienced.

The "expert + agent" model

In this model there is an expert who takes on the job and is responsible to the client; the expert speeds up draft work with agents of their choice, checks the result and delivers it. For clients, three points matter most:

  1. Transparency: which tasks are done with an agent and which by hand should be stated clearly.
  2. Data preference: the client should decide which tools project data may be sent to.
  3. Responsibility: the expert should be responsible for the accuracy and quality of the work.

Questions to ask an expert

  • Which tools will you use for this job, and why?
  • How do you check what the agent produces?
  • Which services will my data go to? Will it leave the country?
  • What would the price and timeline be without tools?

FAQ

Is work done with an agent cheaper?

It can often be faster, which can be reflected in the price. But review and fixing effort remains. Asking for prices with and without agents allows a fair comparison.

Who is responsible for an agent's mistake?

The expert who takes on and delivers the job. An agent is a tool; it does not carry responsibility.
